Childspace provides quality care and education for children under five years old.
Childspace has five centres in Wellington. These centres are located in Karori, Wilton, Northland and two in Ngaio. Our hours of operation are 7.30 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday. We close for two weeks over Christmas each year.
Qualified and experienced teachers, excellent ratios and an educational curriculum ensure all children attending Childspace receive the best in quality care and education.
Children experience a supportive and challenging environment where their individual needs are paramount.
Children are encouraged to play within set limits and boundaries to promote self-esteem, social skills and fun which, in turn, empowers them to learn.
Adults and children create a dynamic environment in which care and respect for themselves, others and equipment is promoted.
Families are warmly welcomed and experience an environment where their contributions are valued and partnership is fostered.
Additional information available for parents includes our charter, charter responses, policies book, newsletters, noticeboards, whiteboards, development up-dates, individual discovery projects, day book, management plans and financial statements.

"Childspace is an attractive and welcoming environment for children and parents. Indoor and outdoor spaces are vibrant and rich in colour, texture and imaginative experiences. Design features of the interior and exterior offer children spaces for wonder and exploration. In addition to the murals, mosaics, coloured glass, mirrors and garden water features, children are able to see the world from different levels and perspectives through peepholes and small spaces. All these give the feeling that the centre truly is a 'child's space'."

All children will be appointed a key caregiver who will be responsible for their routine, settling in, individual discovery projects, development updates and parent induction. Young children can often find it challenging to settle into new and unfamiliar environments. This can be distressing for both the parent and child involved. At Childspace time and stress are reduced in the settling process by parents following these ideas:

Every child has a special book of early learning and experiences while at Childspace. In this book we document your child's journey of exploration and discovery, special interests and strengths. We believe it is important to celebrate the individual skills and abilities of each child's development, providing support to revisit and practise these as many times as necessary to allow children time to develop their own theories about the world around them and their interactions with it.
Group Discovery Projects support and celebrate the interests of over two year olds within a group environment. We believe it is important to celebrate children's skills for initiating and maintaining enjoyable relationships with other children. This planning is displayed monthly for parents to become familiar with the programme focus.
We hope from time to time you will contribute to your child's individual book, as well as the group project, to enrich our shared understanding of children's learning and development.
Parent teacher interviews are held twice annually with discussion surrounding your family's aspirations and how teachers can support and guide your child's learning and development while at Childspace.
"The programming approach is a system that has been designed by three Childspace managers to meet the requirements of the teaching staff . It is systematic, soundly based on documented observations of children's skills, interests and learning, current early childhood theory, concepts of best practice and Te Whariki. The philosophy of the value of learning through play is evident throughout the programme."

"Well-presented and very attractive individual discovery folders provide rich insightful information about each child. These include all documentation about the indiviual discovery project, photographs and the celebration of children discovering or achieving something for the first time. A detailed profile of the child, prepared for parent interviews, outlines their strenghts and progress in communication, social abilities, motor skills and centre routines."

Childspace aims to make communication with parents as open, regular and informative as possible. We recognise that while parents are interested in all aspects of the centre, they are often restricted by time. We have therefore instigated a variety of communication channels.
"Childspace promotes partnership with parents. A well-established induction process ensures families know the centre philosophy and practices. They are encouraged to contribute to the centre's operation, review processes and programme. Teachers also provide information evenings about their beliefs and the ways in which they work with children, which has resulted in some families mirroring this at home."
